  • Overview

    The Kinkaid School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered individual with an interest in gaining practical teaching experience thorugh a year-long internship in a private school setting.  The purpose of this internship is to partner a future educator with master teachers to gain experience with effective lesson planning, creating an engaging learning environment, and mastering content delivery.  The teaching fellow will develop a strong familiarity with core content, connect content to students’ innate inquisitiveness and integrate technology into the curriculum, among other key aspects of effective instruction.   This is a paid internship for the duration of the 2019-20 school year, starting in August 2019.

     

    The Kinkaid School is a co-educational non-sectarian day school enrolling 1,400 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade.   Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the school offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban, diverse culture.  Faculty enjoys small class sizes and a collegial, collaborative environment centered on intellectual curiosity and continuous professional development.  With enrollment of about 450, the Middle School fosters a learning environment centered on academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and personal growth and attention.     Responsibilities

    • Teach classes in conjunction with master teacher or as a substitute to master teacher
    • Work with middle-school students to support learning and academic achievement
    • Assist with the supervision of students at lunchtime and during recess
    • Support learning activities through one-on-one tutoring and instruction
    • Chaperon school trips and school-sponsored activities
    • Support the School, its mission, and its leadership
    • Be an active member of the school community by attending games, special art events, and become part of the overall school community
    • Additional responsibilities may involve after-school activities such as coaching a sport or sponsoring a club or supervising after-school programs

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, the Humanities, Science or related field
    • Experience with and enjoyment of working with middle-school age students 
    • Commitment to the field of education as a future master teacher
    • Familiarity with technology
    • Strong work ethic and willingness to invest time to learn and grow
    • Open to constructive criticism
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment
    • Interest in being a full member of the community, contributing both inside and outside of the classroom
    • Eagerness to grow professionally and remain current within the field
    • Collegial, energetic, and engaging
