  • Overview

    The Kinkaid School is seeking an experienced archivist/associate librarian for the successful execution of archival processing of physical and born-digital records.  This full-time position reports to the Director of Libraries in the Upper School Division and also shares in the responsibilities of managing aspects of the Upper School Library, including educational sessions for students and faculty.

     

    The Kinkaid School is a co-educational non-sectarian day school enrolling 1,400 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade.   Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the school offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban, diverse culture. With an enrollment of almost 600, the Upper School fosters a learning environment centered on academic excellence, intellectual curiosity and personal attention.  The Upper School faculty enjoys small class sizes and a collegial, collaborative environment centered on intellectual curiosity and continuous professional development.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage the institutional repository of the school and assist in the maintenance of school wide records retention program.
    • Assist with reference responsibilities, information literacy instruction, and other aspects of supporting an effective and efficient Upper School library.
    • Assists with the implementation and education about the school's records retention program.
    • Work with staff throughout the school to support the use and promotion of archival materials.
    • Support the research and archival needs of the Advancement Office.
    • Follow national standards and best practices for archival description, process and arrange institutional records, recommend and implement appropriate preservation procedures, utilize ArchivesSpace for collection management and the creation of finding aids.
    • Create and manage procedures specifically for the preservation of born digital and digitized archival records.
    • Create archival exhibits for instructional purposes and special events.
    • Train and supervise volunteers assigned to assist with projects.
    • Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, and attending professional development courses and trainings.

    Qualifications

    • Master of Library Science degree from an accredited institution, specializing in archival enterprise.
    • Demonstrated experience with standard archival principles and practices, preferably within an institutional repository
    • Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivist, and/or Digital Archives Specialist preferred.
    • Experience with ArchivesSpace, Archon, or Archivists’ Toolkit or other XML database.
    • Knowledge of current digital preservation trends, tools, and best practices.
    • Experience with digitization procedures for a wide range of materials (audio-visual digitization experience preferred).
    • Prepared to adjust work schedules to staff the Upper School library during its regular hours, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
    • Interest in the history of The Kinkaid School and preserving its institutional memory.
