The Kinkaid School is seeking an enthusiastic Teacher with a passion for students to serve as a Middle School Science Teacher starting August 2018.  


The Kinkaid School is a co-educational, nonsectarian day school enrolling 1,400 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade.   Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the school offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban and diverse culture.  With enrollment of about 450, the Middle School fosters a learning environment centered on academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and personal growth and attention. The Middle School faculty enjoys small class sizes and a collegial, collaborative environment centered on team work and continuous professional development.



Kinkaid's Middle School Science curriculum includes General, Earth, Life and Physical sciences. The ideal candidate should demonstrate an affinity for working with middle school students and be comfortable teaching multiple grade levels, including Earth Science and/or Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC). Additionally, experience with project-based learning, STEM or engineering design or robotics would be a plus. The teacher will also advise a small group of students and be a member of one or more grade level teams. Kinkaid teachers enjoy a supportive teaching environment focused on collegiality and academic excellence.  Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring a club or coaching a sport.  This is contingent upon the candidate’s interest and skill set as well as the School’s needs.The Middle School Science teacher must be able to teach all levels of Middle School science to a total of approximately 75 students.  


  • A Bachelor’s degree in science or pedagogy with an emphasis on science education (Master’s degree preferred)
  • A minimum of three years of experience teaching science to middle school children.
  • Proven understanding and ability to teach Nature of Science, Scientific Methods, in addition to the Middle School Science Content
  • Experience with project based learning, engineering design or robotics a plus
  • Ability to incorporate inquiry into instructional strategies to create student centered problem solving approach to learning
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Docs, Spreadsheet
  • Familiarity with Logger Pro or Graphical Analysis preferred
  • Core knowledge of development of middle school age children
  • Core knowledge about research-based practices for effective instruction of the middle school age learner
  • A passion for and experience with integrating technology into the curriculum to serve the needs of all learners
