    The Kinkaid School is seeking an enthusiastic Teacher with a passion for students to serve as a Middle School English Teacher for 5th grade starting August 2018.  


    The Kinkaid School is a co-educational, nonsectarian day school enrolling 1,400 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade.   Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the school offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban and diverse culture. With enrollment of about 450, the Middle School fosters a learning environment centered on academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and personal growth and attention. The Middle School faculty enjoys small class sizes and a collegial, collaborative environment centered on team work and continuous professional development.


    The Middle School English teacher must be able to teach 5th grade English to a total of approximately 75 students.  The teachers will advise a small group of students and be a member of one or more grade level teams.    Kinkaid teachers enjoy a supportive teaching environment focused on collegiality and academic excellence.  Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring a club or coaching a sport.  This is contingent upon the candidate’s interest and skill set as well as the School’s needs.


    • A Bachelor’s degree in related field (Master’s degree preferred)
    • A minimum of three years of experience teaching English to middle school children. Experience teaching 4th through 6th grade is preferred.
    • Experience using literacy strategies to build and assess students comprehension skills, word knowledge, fluency and critical thinking.
    • Core knowledge of development of middle school age children
    • Core knowledge about research-based practices for effective instruction of the middle school age learner
    • A passion for and experience with integrating technology into the curriculum to serve the needs of all learners
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
